Tempus Choral Society, Tempus Children's Choir and Tempus Jazz Choir

The Tempus Choral Society is a community SATB choir for singers 18 years of age and over. With over 90 members, from Hamilton to Toronto, Tempus boasts a varied musical repertoire including Broadway, Jazz, Classical, Gospel, Sacred and Contemporary.

Tempus has performed with the Canadian Male Orpheus Choir and the Sankt Annae Youth Choir of Denmark and at many festivals. Tempus placed third (jazz category) at the 2012 World Choir Games. In December 2014, the group sang the Messiah at the Lincoln Center. In April 2015, members performed Vaughan Williams Dona Nobis Pacem at Carnegie Hall in New York as part of an international choir of auditioned singers. Tempus plans a European tour in the summer of 2018.

 Tempus' mandate:

  • to promote excellence in choral music both in Ontario, nationally and internationally through concerts, competitions and choral festivals
  • to raise funds for noteworthy local causes through performances and sales of our CDs.

Tempus performs under the direction of Brian L. Turnbull and is accompanied by Jane Wamsley.

Our membership is made up of singers from all walks of life who have fun producing choral music of the highest standard.  New members are welcome during the fall and at selected times during the year as arranged with the Director of Membership.

Tempus Children's Choir and Tempus Jazz Choir

In 2015, a Tempus children's choir, featuring children from ages 7-14, and a jazz choir were formed as part of a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Both choirs perform at Tempus concerts.
